(OK well I suppose I have more than one - I have like, a bazillion. But let's talk about the *worst* one, and the one I most frequently use to "cheat" on my gluten/soy/dairy free diet).
Pizza.
Those 5 letters...and such a simple food. Such wonderful, delicious comfort food.
The yeasty simple crust coated with spicy tomato sauce, the toppings drowning under the scintillating flavours of mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan...all baked until warm, crispy...exploding in your mouth MMMH OH OW OH too hot...doesn't matter...cheesy warm goodness...consume me you delectable treat, you dirty little slut just give it to me...mmmh...
Ok where was I?
Mmmh. Right pizza. And my lack of it.
And it's the one thing I haven't been able to have.
Not really.
I'll end up ordering from Pizza Pizza and having stomach discomfort from the dairy-ful cheese.
Plus lets be honest - the crust is like...biting into cardboard. :(
(and don't tell me the Magic Oven makes a great GF pizza - I know that. But I'm not going to spend $45 on one pizza. I'm sorry but I'm waaaaaaaaay too cheap!)
So I am on a quest *sound trumpets!* to discover a recipe that does justice to this pornographic food memory.
A real, good homemade pizza crust. I have some hope!
Today I was
1. From Ginger Lemon Girl : http://gingerlemongirl.blogspot.com/2008/05/kid-friendly-food-fridays-gluten-free.html
2. OH GOD SEE? This is why I need to blog with links b/c I f'ing lose them as soon as I see them *cries* I'll find it again. You'll see....OR my lovely readers (do you exist?) can leave some potential links in the comments too! :)
*ahem*
Now for the toppings? I need an alternative vegan cheese topping that tastes good, melts *and* doesn't have soy. I'm talking about Daiya shredded cheese. It's had many good reviews, and I almost HAD some except for the stupid f'ing Santa Claus parade which shut down the City on Sunday afternoon when we were grocery shopping - we *were* going to go to a grocery store that carries Daiya, but alas, could not make it north of Bloor. Anyhow. We will attempt again next weekend.
If it ends up being gross, I don't know *what* I am going to do.
Cheese-less pizza?
I suppose that is better than no pizza at all. (slightly). OK not really. But I'll figure something out.
THE QUEST HAS BEGUN!
Good luck! If you find something excellent I may have to try it :)
ReplyDeleteI will totally let you know!
